Very Nice

Just realized that I’m going to have the whole month of August off! My summer classes end on July 31st, and my internship begins on the first week of September. If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is! Life just keeps tossing me candies!

I’m having a lot of fun in school because I keep making awesome friends. It’s a little less boring when you have people to call when you want to do a study group, grab lunch or see a movie. Also, getting more good grades and having professors who recognize me make me feel even more motivated to study. I’m going to miss this school life for 10 months :(

Anyway, since I’m going to be bumming around in August, I thought of things to do:

  1. Get that damn L. I need to learn how to drive.
  2. Try to start working on creating my own language (ConLang)
  3. Catch up on my reading challenge (currently 3 books behind)
  4. Make a Linguistics website (?)
  5. Watch City of Bones!!!!!

#1 – Yes, I do.

#2 – I’m pretty excited about this!!! I’m going to buy a book called The Language Construction Kit to help me do this.

#3 – I hope to read more Vonnegut books because I miss him so much.

#4- I’ve been thinking about this because I was inspired by some of my favourite Linguists online, but I’m not sure if I can keep it updated. I also started working on a Tagalog blog, but it’s still under construction. To be honest, teaching your own language is hard if you don’t have any formal training. I’ve been looking for web resources on teaching Tagalog to aid me in making this Tagalog blog, but there are not a lot of good ones available online. I hope that if I do successfully create this blog, it’s gonna be one of the first helpful Tagalog language websites. That’s a goal! ;)

#5 – I hope I don’t die before that.

PS: Currently thinking of buying a new domain..

If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is

“And I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”

― Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country

June 2013. If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is. There are just so many things to be grateful for! Time for a happy list:

1. My dad is finally here in Canada after what seemed like forever. My family and I just spent our first dinner together after a really long time, and it’s just nice to be complete again. We ate at a nearby Portuguese restaurant, but this coming weekend I will treat them to my favourite Asian restaurant because…

2. I recently received a job offer as a Special Education Assistant at an elementary school in Coquitlam! I’m hyped! I went in for an interview last Friday, so the whole week I spent a lot of time doing research, and I even practiced for that interview. It feels good to achieve something I worked hard for. It was difficult to force myself not to half-ass that application, but it totally paid off. I could go on and on about my excitement for that internship, but let’s save that for another day.

3. A good microphone has always been on my wishlist, and my dad finally bought me a Blue Snowball last Sunday! I can’t wait to record song covers; I will post one here as soon as I make one. I tested it yesterday. It sounds quite decent! Pictures on my instagram ^_^

4. Good grades mean something! I believe that grades don’t accurately measure how well you know your stuff, so don’t be too sad if your GPA isn’t that great. However, if you keep getting good grades, that means something. I think my good grades this semester mean that I do a better academic performance when I don’t do a part-time job. This means that I’m putting enough time for school work, and that’s good! I hope I keep getting good grades for the rest of the semester. Or for the rest of my academic experience. Heheh.

I hope to write more interesting stuff, but school has made me all flat and boring. I’ve been thinking about internships, a minor in Cognitive Science, whether or not I’ll be able to do an Honors degree, whether or not I should participate in Linguistics clubs, etc. I feel less human everyday, but I enjoy iiiiit! Still, I will try to think about fun stuff more often.

I’ll daydream about being a twenty-something Shadowhunter, torn between two hipster downworlders #themortalinstruments #cityofbones #IamExcite
